Guilin View
Yangshuo's iconic Yulong River came alive with energy as the first Bamboo Raft Race Challenge got underway.
The event, part of the "Wild Guilin Adventure" Guangxi Outdoor Sports Carnival, gathered 22 teams from diverse groups – local township representatives, tourism industry staff, college students, and an 8-member ASEAN team with members hailing from Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. Their participation added a vivid international vibe to the competition amid the river's stunning landscapes.
Six lanes stretched across the water for the raft races, with each team consisting of four members competing in men's, women's and mixed-gender divisions.
Paddlers surged forward on the clear river, their synchronized strokes paired with loud chants that mixed with the cheers of onlookers lining the banks. Top finishers walked away with cash prizes, trophies and certificates, while every participating team received souvenirs including local specialties and travel vouchers that reflected the region's unique charm.
The inaugural bamboo raft race stands as a creative attempt by Yangshuo to combine sports with its tourism resources. It not only offered an exciting outdoor activity for locals and visitors but also helped strengthen the area's appeal as an international travel spot.
ASEAN participants were full of praise for the breathtaking scenery, noting that the race perfectly blended competitive fun with natural beauty and served as a wonderful window to experience Yangshuo's charm.
