The 2025 Guilin Festival concluded on Nov 2, marking the conclusion of a 10-day celebration of art and nature in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
This year's festival focused on "Huajing" as its core theme. It portrayed Guilin's famous mountains and rivers as a "canvas" and art as "ink", aiming to blend nature with culture.
The goal was to rebuild Eastern aesthetic values while preserving traditional roots and to use art as a link between history, the natural world and the future.
Building on Guilin's one-of-a-kind landscape, the festival explored new ways to create location-based art. It focused on two key ideas: landscape and theater. Natural spaces like mountain areas and caves were transformed into unique stages.
This not only advanced the Chinese aesthetic spirit in a modern context, but also contributed to the development of China's unique theater system.
The festival centered on three key areas: drama, fine arts, and music. It offered over 100 varied shows and events, such as Chinese and international plays, musicals, local Gui Opera, children's plays, puppet shows, and physical theater. Art exhibitions and concerts were also included in the program.
In this way, the festival strengthened the link between history and modern life, as well as between Guilin's landscapes and its urban areas. It vividly demonstrated the vitality of art in contemporary China.
