On Oct 26, the Chinese-Western theater dialogue and Guiju (Guilin Opera) cultural exhibition was launched by the Lijiang River in Guilin. It drew theater lovers and visitors from over a dozen countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Russia.

The event focused on Guiju, mixing local intangible cultural heritage (ICH) like Caitiao Opera, Guangxi Wenchang (folk art) and Guilin Yugu (drum performance). It offered live shows, cross-cultural talks and interactive activities to highlight traditional Chinese opera's charm.

Young Guiju performers opened with classic excerpts. Fan Jidan's performance of an imperial concubine role and Li Yaqing's traditional piece won warm applause. Li's "no-props" acting also showcased the opera's symbolic art style.

ICH inheritors added more highlights. Ye Chuntao sang Guangxi Wenchang and Guilin Yugu. Qin Zhiping and Tang Xi, Caitiao Opera inheritors, staged lively traditional pieces, moving the audience with song and dance.

A key part was the "Pulse of Tradition, Stage of the World" dialogue. National Guiju Inheritor Zhang Shuping talked with Swiss Director Andreas Zimmermann.

Zimmermann praised Guiju's "simple but emotional" style, hoping to use its moves in European theater. Zhang said ICH needs youth and global exchanges to stay alive.

Visitors joined fun activities: imitating Caitiao Opera moves, learning Guangxi Wenchang singing and practicing Guilin Yugu rhythms. German guest Norbert loved the performers' singing and costumes. Photographer Perret called local opera a great way to show Chinese culture.

Organized by Guilin's cultural and media groups, the event follows the "landscape plus theater" idea. Officials said it fits the Guilin Art Festival's "international, youth-focused" aim, boosting ICH-tourism integration.
