The sector has maintained strong growth momentum and is a key part of the city's modern industrial layout.

In 2024, there were 45 above-scale enterprises engaged in the industry, 55 percent of which were high-tech companies.

The total output value of above-scale industries in the city exceeded 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion). Guilin Tebang, a leader in superhard materials, holds a 70 percent share in the Chinese mainland market, with its diamond wire saws reaching international advanced levels.

In micro-nano powder materials, Guilin Jinshan pioneers controllable nano-to-micron calcium carbonate production. In new energy materials, Guilin Qingyan Haolong – supported by Shenzhen Tsinghua University Research Institute – leads globally in graphene flexible temperature-control materials for new energy vehicle batteries.

The Guilin Electrical Equipment Scientific Research Institute excels in the development of polymer material equipment. It is the world's only supplier of all types of biaxial stretching film equipment, with a more-than 50 percent domestic market share in polyimide film equipment.

Guilin is now focusing on advanced basic, strategic, and cutting-edge new materials. It aims to build three iconic industrial chains by 2027, fostering 10 specialized enterprises and five smart factories to strengthen the sector's role in local high-quality development.
