A heartfelt message from Italian tourist Milva Carnevali sent to the Chinese Embassy in Italy has captivated global audiences, highlighting Yangshuo's stunning natural beauty and welcoming spirit – an inspiring story of cross-cultural unity.
Carnevali's two-week trip through China in August enchanted her with its scenic vistas and archaeological sites, but an incident in Yangshuo left a lasting impression.

During a rafting trip on the Lijiang River, her phone fell into the muddy post-rain waters. Without hesitation, raftman Huang Qibin dived in to find it, supported by his colleagues. After 30 minutes of teamwork, they recovered the device – an act Carnevali called "a strong example of selflessness and swift response".

"This is what we do here," Huang later said, reflecting the ethos of Yangshuo's tourism staff. "Our job is to help visitors enjoy every part of their stay amid our landscapes."
Her experience was enhanced by Pan Guocan, a seasoned Italian-speaking guide with 30 years of experience, whose expertise made her feel comfortable and welcomed.

These actions support Yangshuo's continuous efforts to enhance its tourism services. "It reflects our 'Smiling Yangshuo' initiative," said Liao Meirong, head of the county's culture and tourism bureau, highlighting ongoing training to deliver outstanding guest experiences.
Carnevali concluded her letter with a promise to cherish the memory, calling it "a true symbol of Chinese generosity".
