Guilin launched a series of educational activities for Culture and Natural Heritage Day on the South China Karst, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enhance public awareness of its protection on June 13.

The event featured a diverse array of programs, including science lectures, hands-on experiences, and school outreach initiatives, all designed to engage the community in preserving these natural wonders.

The day began with an opening ceremony at Guilin's Crown Cave Scenic Area, where karst geology experts delivered an informative lecture titled "The Journey of a Waterdrop", explaining the formation processes of karst landscapes. Young participants then took part in immersive activities like cave exploration and historical preservation missions, gaining deeper insight into the scientific importance of these formations.

In the afternoon, the campaign moved to Putao Town Central Primary School in Yangshuo county. Experts conducted interactive sessions on karst caves and their unique ecosystems, sparking students' interest through engaging workshops. Children received educational gifts and heritage-themed materials, along with encouragement to become future stewards of environmental conservation and embrace sustainable development principles.

This year holds special significance as it marks both the 53rd anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and the 40th anniversary of China's participation in the treaty.

Guilin has made notable progress in historical preservation, developing comprehensive protection systems and innovative practices. Recent achievements include the 2024 designation of the Guilin Karst as a UNESCO Global Geopark and recognition of the Lijiang River as a national model for environmental restoration and governance.
