The ecological quality of Lijiang River in Guilin, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has been steadily improving thanks to the consistent efforts of locals, according to two reports released by Guangxi authorities on April 25.
The Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in conjunction with Guilin municipal people's government, held a press conference on that day, unveiling the "Lijiang River Ecological and Environmental Quality Index Report (2024)" and the "Lijiang River Ecological and Environmental Quality Report (2024)".
According to the reports, the ecological and environmental quality index of the Lijiang River, renowned for its unique natural landscapes that include lush mountains and crystal-clear waters, stood at 86.82 in 2024, marking an increase of 0.27 from 2023. The health of the river has steadily improved, showcasing new achievements in environmental protection efforts.
In recent years, Guilin has remained committed to targeted, scientific and lawful pollution control measures and stepped up efforts to safeguard blue skies, clear waters, and clean land, continuously enhancing the ecological and environmental quality of the Lijiang River basin.
Upholding a systematic governance approach, the city has made rapid progress in advancing the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, waters, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, and deserts.
The steady improvement in the health of the Lijiang River has primarily manifested in four aspects: ecological quality, environmental quality, eco-friendliness, and environmental safety.
