Mao'er Mountain, the highest peak in South China and the source of the Lijiang River serves as a crucial ecological barrier in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

In spring, Mao'er Mountain becomes a paradise of blooming rhododendrons, refreshing air, and magnificent views of clouds.

The nature reserve boasts a forest coverage rate of 96.5 percent, featuring primeval forests, alpine wetlands, and diverse rare plants and animals.

Various rhododendrons bloom across the mountain from March to June, displaying diverse forms and vibrant colors. On clear mornings, reaching the summit of Mao'er Mountain offers a chance to witness the spectacular clouds at sunrise.

Mao'er Mountain is also the home to relict plants from the Quaternary glaciation, such as southern hemlock, southern yew, and rhododendron maoerense. It also shelters nationally protected animals like the hynobius maoershanensis, white-necked long-tailed pheasant, and musk deer.
