A school's STEAM achievements at a regional primary and middle school science education exhibition in Guilin, Guangxi, have drawn widespread attention. This interdisciplinary model integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics is quietly gaining momentum in Guilin.

Originating in Europe and the United States, the model, already popular in regions like Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong, focuses on breaking disciplinary barriers to enhance students' innovative spirit and practical abilities, guiding them to solve real-world problems with practical knowledge.

Guangxi Normal University's experimental kindergarten was among the first in Guilin to adopt the model. Unlike the pre-made material kits used in coastal areas, it uses common daily items such as disposable chopsticks, cardboard and paper cups, allowing students to process materials themselves at low cost.

It has developed localized courses like making local rice noodles and ethnic dyeing, with steps including knowledge building, hands-on experiments, group design, collaborative production and display.

The kindergarten has created over 80 original STEAM course cases, formed a "low-threshold, high-creativity" model, held over 70 lectures for teachers across the region, trained more than 3,000 teachers and supported over 800 families, providing a replicable model for science education in the region.
