Xiufeng district, located in midwestern Guilin city, covers an area of 43 square kilometers. It has a population of 162,000 and administers three street offices, seven villages and 22 communities. Xiufeng is the center of Guilin’s culture, business, tourism, finance, entertainment and shopping. Its name is derived from the Duxiu Peak in the area.
Xiufeng has several famous scenic spots such as Duxiu Peak, Reed Flute Cave, Xishan Mountain, Xiaoyao Tower. It has eye-catching natural scenery such as the world’s largest artificial waterfall. It is home to historical sites including the Jingjiang Palace of the Ming Dynasty, ancient south gate of Song Dynasty, inscriptions on precipices, the ancient city wall of Song Dynasty and bas-reliefs. The district has rich cultural resources such as stone carving culture, Nuo dance culture and folk culture. It has Guilin’s most representative business blocks including Zhongshan Square, Zhongshan Middle Road, Shizi Street, Zhengyang Pedestrian Street and the historical and cultural block Zhengyang East West Street. Xiufeng is the city’s most prosperous district with many shopping malls.
In recent years, Xiufeng has built itself into a district famous for tourism, culture and industries and has achieved significant progress in its economy. In 2021, its GDP increased by 3.1% year-on-year, the total output value of large-scale industries increased by 0.2% year-on-year, the added value of large-scale industries decreased by 3.9%, the fixed-asset investment fell by 26.4 percent, the total retail sales of consumer goods grew by 5.5 percent. The fiscal revenue for 2021 was 548 million yuan, a year-on-year growth of 1.2 percent. The per capita disposable income of urban residents was 41,694 yuan, a year-on-year growth of 6.7 percent.
