Nandan county of Hechi city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region was abuzz with excitement on April 18 as a wolf-like soldier parade took stage ahead of the Sanyuesan Festival, a traditional ethnic gala in Guangxi that falls on the third day of the third month based on traditional Chinese calendar.

The parade proved to be a grand spectacle, featuring nine major formations with 1,500 dedicated performers. It encompassed three core segments: a display of martial arts evoking the power of wolves, an intangible cultural heritage showcase, and colorful ethnic displays.

The martial arts performances were a highlight, with participants donning special soldier's armor that visually references wolves while wielding spears and shields. They vividly reenacted battle formations, weapon duels, and war dances, capturing the audience's imagination with their powerful depiction of the soldiers' bravery and valor.

Interactive elements were also part of the event, with visitors collecting stamps along the route to exchange for mysterious gifts at Danquan Square, adding to the lively atmosphere.

The wolf-like soldier culture of Nandan has deep historical roots, renowned since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) for its fierce and loyal soldiers.

This parade not only honors the indomitable spirit of the soldiers but also revitalizes traditional ethnic culture, enhancing the cultural identity of Dandan and fostering ethnic unity and cultural prosperity.
