Du'an emerges as model for ecological migration

Du'an Yao autonomous county in Hechi, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has achieved remarkable success in ecological migration by scientifically planning and innovating industry, thus transforming the lives of 10,365 households, totaling 46,747 people.

This initiative has effectively moved residents from impoverished mountainous regions to newly established communities, marking a significant achievement in the county, which is mostly covered by mountains. In some areas, people's lives are negatively affected by adverse natural conditions or serious environmental degradation.

Given the situation, Du'an has pioneered the resettlement model to build a rational relocation system. A major resettlement site was established in the Baxian Industrial Park, leveraging industrial clusters to provide employment for relocated residents. Five core sites in the county and key towns offer comprehensive public services, while smaller sites in towns with unique industrial potential promote urban-rural integration.

Seeing industrial innovation as key to empowering relocated residents, Du'an has reserved land for poverty alleviation workshops at 13 resettlement sites, attracting businesses with no-rent policies to facilitate local employment. To bolster livestock farming, a collaborative model involving government support and enterprise participation has been developed.

In addition, sustainable support mechanisms have been adopted to ensure both stability and prosperity, integrating party leadership with public services and community governance. Smart community initiatives, such as AI surveillance systems, enhance security.

The "Du'an model" has been promoted nationwide as a way to boost rural vitalization.
