Hechi celebrates Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival

Hechi city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region celebrated the Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival on Sept 28 in Yizhou district, known as the "New Capital of Chinese Silk" and the "Hometown of Sericulture".

The event featured a variety of activities, including a launch ceremony, the Guangdong-Guangxi-Guizhou production and marketing matchmaking conference, the Yizhou sericulture industry fair, a long-table harvest feast, live-streaming with online influencers, fun harvest competitions, and cultural performances.

With silk as a medium and live streaming as a bridge, the event showcased Hechi's rich produce and the charm of the sericulture industry, helping premium agricultural products reach broader markets.

The festival attracted many visitors to its diverse exhibition areas, including those for the intangible cultural heritage handcrafts. Local resident Huang Qiuxia enjoyed tasting local specialties, saying "We used to make a living by growing agricultural products, so today feels like a celebration of our own".

The Yizhou sericulture industry fair highlighted the theme "Golden Silk, Hechi Highlights," promoting the sericulture brand through digital, cultural, and live-streaming initiatives. The event featured a harvest feast with over 390 participants enjoying local delicacies like mulberry leaf cakes and mulberry wine. Liu Feng, a villager from Sanwan, shared her success: "I raised six batches of silkworms this year, earning over 40,000 yuan ($5,602) in the first half of this year."

The event also leveraged "Zhenpin" brand to help local enterprises seek with high-end markets in Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong province and the Guangdong-one Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
