Tour of Guangxi 2024 reaches Bama
On Oct 17, the third stage of the Tour of Guangxi 2024 concluded in Bama. The 214-kilometer route began in Jingxiu Ancient Town, Jingxi, and ended at the Shouxiang Cultural Square in Bama Yao autonomous county, known for its longevity.
The stage featured two sprint points and three climbing points reaching nearly 2,000 meters above sea level.
Riders made a final sprint on Shouxiang Avenue, greeted by cheering crowds and the hum of helicopters. Excitement was palpable as thousands of people waved flags, shouting “Welcome to Bama!”
“We’re excited to showcase our ethnic culture to the world,” said a local resident named Huang Chunyan.
Thousands of volunteers, including Liu Yong, ensured the event ran smoothly. “It’s thrilling to serve an international event and welcome all the guests,” said Liu.
At 3:20 pm, Israel-Premier Tech’s Ethan Vernon emerged victorious. Dries De Bondt from the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team won the Best Climber Award, and Soudal-Quick-Step’s Pepijn Reinderink received the Combativity Award.
Dries De Bondt spoke to the media about his experience with the race and winning the Best Climber Award. He mentioned watching the replay and appreciating the natural beauty of the third stage. He concluded by saying to the camera, "Hello Bama, I love Bama!"
