Hechi hosted 1.58 million tourists from April 29 to May 3, a year-on-year increase of 45.78 percent, according to the Hechi municipal bureau of culture, radio, television, sports and tourism.

That generated tourism spending of 963 million yuan ($140 million), up a whopping 31.95 percent year on year.

The bureau also said that during the Sanyuesan holiday, from April 21 to 23, the city launched exciting festive activities, raising the profile of its tourism industry. Following the Sanyuesan holiday, the May Day holiday's tourism market continued to heat up.

During the break, the Hechi Garden Expo Park and Liu Sanjie's Hometown Scenic Area both launched big performances. Elsewhere, Tian'e county held a Pojie township tourism festival, Donglan Pohao Lake National Wetland Park staged a bamboo raft competition and the Fengshan Sanmenhai Tourist Distribution Center put on a low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle show.

The city launched six themed routes and four intangible cultural heritage inheritance and experience routes for the Bronze Drum Culture (Hechi) Ecological Protection Experimental Zone, which proved to be a hit with the tourists.

Relying on their special tourism and lifestyle resources, each county and district promoted the development of camping tourism and leisure. During the May Day holiday, the Dahua Yantan Meinyu Peak's Zhaixing Campsite, the Laohechi Yinma River's Tent Car Campsite and the Shiguang Campsite in the Huanjiang Mulun Karst Ecological Tourism Area were popular spots for hordes of tourists.

In recent years, the city has promoted the construction of holistic tourism. Tourism projects, characteristic towns and beautiful villages have provided more choices for visitors. Self-driving tours, parent-child tours and suburban tours have become top draws in the tourism market.
