Baiku Yao people of Guangxi, Guizhou celebrate Nianjie Festival

The 2023 Baiku Yao folklore tourism event was held on Feb 6 in Lihu Yao township, Nandan county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. People of the Baiku Yao ethnic group from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Guizhou province celebrated the Nianjie Festival together.

Every year, around the 15th day of the first lunar month, an important festival for the Baiku Yao people takes place, known locally as the Nianjie Festival.

The Nianjie Festival is a brilliant festival created by the Baiku Yao people over a long period of time. The festival is not only a platform to showcase the Baiku Yao folk culture, but also acts as a vehicle for its heritage.

During the festival, Baiku Yao compatriots welcome guests from all over the world with activities such as bronze drums and singing performances, as well as shotgun firing activities. At the same time, the Baiku Yao people showcase their spinning techniques, embroidery, and paintings. They also host a Baiku Yao gyro competition between Guangxi and Guizhou.

In particular, the Baiku Yao folklore tourism street attracts many visitors. Tourists get to shop and experience a Baiku Yao style banquet. The event highlights Baiku Yao bronze drums, costumes and songs, as well as demonstrates the happy and rich culture of the Baiku Yao people.
