Hechi's Donglan county served as the home of old revolutionary bases in China. In recent years, the county has managed to integrate red tourism resources with environmentally friendly industries and healthcare tourism. Once considered remote and backwards, Donglan is now a rising force.

Entering the county seat along the Hongshui River Bridge, Xiangyang New City Resettlement Community, the largest poverty alleviation resettlement site in Donglan county, soon appears. More than 4,000 migrants have embarked on new lives here.

Relying on the resettlement community, Donglan plans to invest 6.9 billion yuan ($965 million) over five years to promote the construction of Xiangyang New City.

To date, Donglan Shenzhen Longhua Primary School, Donglan County Experimental Primary School, Donglan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Xiangyang New City Water Supply project, Donglan Culture and Sports Center and other basic supporting service projects in Xiangyang New City have been completed. The Donglan museum, library, Baqun High School and other projects have also been started.

In the southeast of Xiangyang New City, the construction site of Donglan Comprehensive Market is in full swing. The project is a key investment attraction of Hechi. Covering an area of 700 mu (47 hectares), with a planned investment of 5 billion yuan, it will build an area integrating food, housing, play, shopping, and schools, and will provide more than 1,300 jobs for resettled people.

In recent years, Donglan has been upgrading old areas, promoting urbanization development, improving the quality of the county area, and expanding its urban development space.
