Fengshan makes achievements in water conservancy

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Hechi’s Fengshan county invested a total of 670 million yuan ($103.7 million) in the development of its water conservancy work, and this achieved good results.

Land expropriation is the most difficult problem in the construction of water conservancy projects, according to Wu Huanren, director of the Fengshan county water conservancy bureau. The county began land expropriation work at the same time as it began its water conservancy projects. On the one hand, it has mediated and solved all kinds of disputes caused by land expropriation compensation; on the other hand, protective measures were adopted to crack down on the act of illegally obstructing construction.

Between 2016 and 2020, Fengshan invested a total of 310 million yuan to complete the Qiaoyin Reservoir expansion project - the county's water supply source - and Sanmenhai town's water supply source of Shegeng Reservoir.

With an investment of 70 million yuan, the county completed six small and medium-sized river control projects. A total of 180 million yuan was invested to build, renovate or expand 394 centralized water supply projects and build 5,362 domestic water tanks, thus providing safe drinking water for more than 142,000 people.

It invested 61 million yuan to build 531 water conservancy channels, and made improvements to an irrigated area of 39,000 mu (2,600 hectares). Seventeen million yuan was invested to control 40 square kilometers of soil erosion.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Fengshan will push forward its reservoir engineering, small and medium-sized rivers control projects, soil and water conservation, rural drinking water safety, and water-saving work. Shanglin Reservoir will be built, and preliminary work will start on the Zhongting and Jiangzhou reservoirs.
