Yizhou strives to develop cocoon and silk industry

A press conference was held in Hechi's Yizhou district on June 18 to introduce the development situation of the local cocoon and silk industry as well as plans for the industry's future development.

In 2020, the mulberry-planting area in Yizhou district reached 377,000 mu (25,133 hectares), while fresh cocoon production capacity reached 68,000 metric tons. Income created by silkworm breeding is 2.52 billion yuan ($390 million), while the total output value of silkworm production is 4.5 billion yuan. Yihzou's mulberry orchard area, fresh cocoon yield and silkworm production scale have ranked first among counties in China for 16 years.

Qin Yonglong, deputy head of Yizhou district, revealed new targets for the cocoon and silk industry at the press conference. Yizhou will maintain the quantity and improve the quality of silkworm breeding in the first industry; the middle and high-end portions of the industrial chain will be extended in the secondary industry; the district will promote the integration of the cocoon and silk industry and cultural tourism through silk cultural experience, leisure agriculture and exhibition economy in the tertiary industry.

Hechi municipal bureau of commerce will spend a total of 2.49 million yuan in 2021 to support local foreign trade enterprises in exploiting the market.

In addition, Hechi customs will promote the reform of its raw silk export supervision model and simplify export registration procedures. It will also help enterprises to explore the raw silk processing trade and help Yizhou cocoon silk enterprises to improve the domestic and international double-cycle industrial chain.
