Engineers working on Dexing Tunnel, the Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Railway's first tunnel over 5,000 meters, have successfully completed its construction phase, Hechi Daily reported on May 31.

Over 70 percent of the Guangxi section's preliminary construction projects, including bridges, tunnels, roadbeds and culverts, have so far been completed. The whole railway is expected to be finished and open to traffic in 2023.

Located in Baitu town, Jinchengjiang district, Dexing Tunnel is one of the railway's 12 long tunnels and has a total length of 5,299 meters. The area the tunnel passes through is a typical karst landform, which created various difficulties for the construction teams.

In order to speed up the tunneling pace and control the cost, technicians used 3D scanners to collect data and optimize the blasting plan. A complete set of blasting parameters was formed, which will provide technical support for the future construction of long tunnels in karst landscapes.
