Hechi: Home of the bronze drum
The bronze drum is a precious part of Hechi's cultural heritage made by ethnic minority groups such as the Zhuang and Yao in South China. It has a history of more than 2,000 years, symbolizing the worship of the sun and thirst for rain.
At present, the existing bronze drums handed down from ancient times total about 2,400, with more than 1,400 in Hechi itself.
For thousands of years, Hechi's craftspeople have passed down the techniques to make the drums from generation to generation. They have continued to innovate the various designs and techniques used, ensuring that the drums have remained relevant and popular.
