Liu Sanjie cultural festival underway in Yizhou

The opening ceremony for the eighth Liu Sanjie Cultural Tourism Festival took place on April 29 in Yizhou, a county-level city of Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, to celebrate the life of the city's most well-known folk singer.

Born in Yizhou during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 – 907), Liu Sanjie was considered both beautiful and a very skilled singer of traditional folk songs. The story of her life has fascinated and inspired the people of Yizhou so much that a folk singing and cultural tourism festival has been named in her honor.

Liu Sanjie-related folk songs, dances and live shows were presented during the launching ceremony, adding color to the festival that annually gives a boom to local tourism and promotes the city.

Yizhou is a popular tourist city owing to its rich folk cultural heritage, and has been listed as one of the top tourist destination cities in China.
