A major China-ASEAN digital connectivity project in Nanning is entering its final stage, with an international communications import and export bureau expected to launch soon, China Mobile's Guangxi branch announced on July 4.
The national-level hub, first approved in July 2024 as the first such facility outside Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, is built with high-speed, large-capacity, and low-latency features. It has completed infrastructure work and is now finishing supporting systems.
Currently, most China-ASEAN internet traffic from Guangxi is routed through Guangzhou, causing delays. The new hub will reduce latency by allowing direct connections, improving services like telemedicine and cross-border finance.
It will enhance Guangxi's role in regional digital cooperation by supporting cross-border data flow, digital trade, and emerging industries. Plans include developing international data infrastructure and exploring policy relaxations for data transfer.
Expected to become a "digital bridge" between China and ASEAN, the hub supports regional digital economy goals and will promote smart economic transformation.
