On June 9, the Guangxi-Ethiopia Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange Conference was held in Nanning, jointly hosted by the CCPIT Guangxi Committee and the municipal government of Sheger, Ethiopia. This event marked Guangxi's first "Guangxi Connects Five Continents" activity focusing on Africa in 2025.

The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between Guangxi and Ethiopia and expand cooperation in trade and culture under the Belt and Road Initiative. Representatives from Sheger introduced the city's development plans, business environment, and areas of interest for collaboration with Guangxi.

The speaker of the Sheger City Council emphasized Ethiopia's strong ties with China and expressed interest in deeper exchanges with Guangxi. He highlighted the country's abundant natural and mineral resources and promising industries such as textiles, leather, construction materials, coffee, and chemicals. Guangxi enterprises were invited to explore investment opportunities and participate in an upcoming trade fair in Sheger this July.

China remains Ethiopia's largest trading partner, and Ethiopia is one of Guangxi's key partners in Africa. In 2024, bilateral trade between Guangxi and Ethiopia reached 134 million yuan ($19 million).
