Beihai city in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region currently has 4,701.59 hectares of mangroves, making up about 44.3 percent of Guangxi's total mangrove area. This places Beihai as the leader in Guangxi and second nationwide, as announced by the Department of Forestry of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Beihai city implemented a unique action plan for mangrove protection and restoration in December 2020, aiming to add 624 hectares and restore 1,600 hectares of mangroves from 2020 to 2025, reinforcing mangrove conservation efforts.
Since launching the mangrove protection and restoration initiative, the city has employed methods like on-site replanting, off-site transplantation, natural recovery, and artificial restoration to advance mangrove projects. These efforts have expanded mangrove areas in placed like the Shankou Mangrove Nature Reserve, enhancing the ecosystem's integrity, connectivity, and stability.
Beihai city has created 472 hectares and restored 1,468 hectares of mangroves. Additionally, by strengthening digital monitoring, conducting scientific research, and organizing internet-based voluntary mangrove planting activities, Beihai has effectively promoted mangrove wetland protection.
