During the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, the deputies from Guangxi suggested to support the establishment of a China-ASEAN AI Innovation Cooperation Center in Guangxi.
This suggestion aims to leverage Guangxi's strategic position as a gateway to ASEAN, enhancing cooperation and advancing AI technology across the region. Guangxi's diverse cultural background and language expertise, particularly in ASEAN languages, provide a unique advantage for fostering AI collaboration.
Guangxi has recently enhanced AI industry policies, improving the business environment and supporting AI enterprises. By 2023, the region had implemented 76 national digital pilot projects focused on digital transformation and had acknowledged several enterprises in the field of smart manufacturing. In addition, Guangxi signed an agreement with Laos to establish a China-Laos AI Innovation Cooperation Center on Feb 23, marking the first AI cooperation platform between China and an ASEAN country. Guangxi has already established 20 AI-related collaborations with Vietnam and Laos.
The suggestion emphasizes setting up the AI center in Guangxi, with branches in ASEAN countries, to promote AI technology's inclusive development, strengthen the China-ASEAN community, and drive high-quality growth in Guangxi.
The suggestion also highlights the need for national support in cultivating and attracting high-end AI talent in Guangxi, establishing national labs, and facilitating collaboration with ASEAN countries for joint talent training projects. This aims to build a talent exchange platform, attracting ASEAN AI experts to Guangxi for research and cooperation.
