He Xiangying of the oceanic administration of Fangchenggang has been dedicated to marine environment monitoring and forecasting and safeguarding the blue ocean in South China since her graduation 22 years ago.
He is also a delegate to the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which will be held in Beijing on Oct 16.
He is of the Jing ethnic group and grew up in the coastal Jiangping town of Dongxing and has been passionate about the ocean since she was a child. Her mother used to catch seafood and sell it at the market to raise her kids.
After He's graduation from university in 2000, she returned to her hometown and became a member of the oceanic administration of Fangchenggang's marine environment monitoring and forecasting center. At that time, the center only had quite small laboratories and few pieces of equipment, and only four staff members, who had no working experience in marine environment monitoring and forecasting.
Great efforts have been made by He and her team to solve technical problems and carry out on-site sea work, overcoming difficulties such as seasickness. The center passed the national laboratory qualification certification review in 2004, one of the first municipal-level centers to do so.
He noted that the most extraordinary thing is to do the most common work well. In the past 22 years, she has participated in more than 50 on-site sea projects, analyzed over 10,000 sets of data and examined over 630 monitoring reports.
