The agricultural cooperation and communication between Guangxi and ASEAN continue to grow, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region announced during a press conference held on Aug 12.

Guangxi is a big player in agriculture and several of its agricultural industrial scales such as sugarcane and silkworm are now all leaders in China.

As a frontier area for opening-up, and cooperating with ASEAN countries, Guangxi has now set up 22 opening-up and cooperation experimental zones or stations in ASEAN countries including Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia to plant more than 750 kinds of high-quality vegetables and rice.

Projects in export-oriented fisheries have also been carried out, such as the ecological prawn aquaculture with Malaysia and the ecological oyster aquaculture with Brunei.

The region has joined hands with ASEAN countries in establishing several agricultural technological parks such as the China-Vietnam Border Agricultural Science and Technology Corridor, the China-Laos Cooperative Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Base, and the China (Guangxi)-Cambodia (Siem Reap) Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park.

A document on accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, which was released by Guangxi this year, pointed out that a modern agricultural seeding demonstration park between China and ASEAN will be built together with a research and development base for the marine aquatic seeding industry.

Communication and cooperation in the seeding industry between Guangxi and ASEAN countries as well as member countries in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) will be deepened.
