Guangxi cooks up development plan for rice noodle industry

Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region released an implementation plan to boost the high-quality development of the local rice noodle industry, which features Liuzhou river snail rice noodle and other distinctive rice noodles, on Aug 3.

The document explains that the concept of industrialization will be applied in the layout of the whole industrial chain for Guangxi's advantageous rice noodles, striving to achieve an overall sales revenue of more than 100 billion yuan ($15.47 billion) and aiding in guiding local companies to explore overseas markets. 

Six major projects will be carried out to push forward the high-quality development of the local rice noodle industry, including increasing supply capacity of raw materials, cultivating a distinctive rice noodle industry, increasing scientific innovation levels and promoting the integrated development of culture and tourism. 

Liuzhou river snail rice noodle, also known Chinese as luosifen, is a local delicacy in Lizhou, which now has developed bids on a scale reaching over 10 billion yuan. Local companies managing the luosifen industry started to produce packaged products that are more convenient for sales in domestic and overseas markets. 

The daily production of packaged Liuzhou luosifen in the first five months of 2021 amounted to 5.06 million packages on average and the total sales revenue reached 7.64 billion yuan. A total of 48 batches of packaged luosifen worth around 9.8 million yuan were exported overseas from January to May this year, up 132.8 percent year on year.
