Chen Kun, head of the infirmary at Longtan village in Hezhou's Zhaoping county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, is also a deputy to the National People's Congress.

Chen has been a rural doctor in Longtan village for more than 20 years.

Longtan village currently has 730 residents. Chen's daily work is to give regular physical examinations to the elderly, make a round of visits to residents with chronic diseases, and set up health records for residents.

She has always insisted on imparting information about health and hygiene to locals, and the villagers' awareness of health matters has improved thanks to her efforts.

Chen often rides a motorbike to visit the villagers, as the most remote houses are about 6 kilometers away from the infirmary.

"We county doctors are the guardians of villagers and the first safeguard of the health defense line in rural areas," said Chen.

Chen suggested that the salary and retirement pensions of county doctors are further increased to let them take root in their villages and make contributions to rural revitalization.
