South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region is accelerating the development of its healthcare industry, with 11 Global Fortune 500 and China's Top 500 enterprises launching related projects worth more than 700 billion yuan ($98.9 billion).

Guangxi strives to build a healthcare industry system featuring medical treatment, senior care, tourism, as well as the joint development of the medicine, sports, and health food industries.

Guangxi boasts a superior ecological environment for longevity and health. It has 29 longevity counties, accounting for one third of the total number in China. In addition, the forest coverage rate in Guangxi is 62.31 percent, while its vegetation ecological quality and vegetation ecological improvement rank first in the country. Guangxi also has 7,088 medicinal varieties, ranking in the forefront of the country.

At present, Guangxi has established databases for major projects and leading enterprises, centering on the senior care, medical treatment, and tourism industries, with a total of 549 projects and 147 leading enterprises. Among them, 17 new projects have been started since 2019, with a total investment of 175.3 billion yuan.

Guangxi's manufacturing industry has ushered in new development opportunities in its healthcare industry. The Guangxi Industry and Information Technology Department has clearly put forward the development ideas of the five major industrial clusters of pharmaceutical manufacturing in Guangxi and the three major industrial clusters of health food.

By strengthening the coordination of industrial space and regional development, the region will boost a strong and competitive healthcare industry cluster.
