Zhonggu Shipping Group signed strategic cooperation and project investment agreements with the planning and construction office of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, Beibu Gulf Port Group, and the Qinzhou area of the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone on June 11 to promote the high-level opening-up and high quality development of Beibu Gulf ports.
Zhonggu Shipping Group is one of the earliest professional container shipping companies in China. It ranks 13th among the top 100 container liners in the world and second in China. In 2019, the total container throughput of Zhonggu in major ports in China exceeded 22 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) and it ranked second in container throughput at Beibu Gulf ports.
The just signed Zhonggu Qinzhou Container Intermodal Logistics Base project is the first logistics base of Zhonggu Shipping Group in the Beibu Gulf ports. It covers an area of about 321 mu (21.4 hectares), with a total investment of 500 million yuan ($70.54 million). It will mainly include large container yards, a sea-rail combined transportation hub station, a foreign trade container transfer base, a storage area and regional distribution center, a cold chain logistics base, an automobile vehicle logistics center, as well as other facilities.
The project will start construction in the near future and will be put into operation within the year. After completion, it will become a new benchmark for the construction of the Western Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
The signing of the strategic cooperation and project investment agreements marks a new level of cooperation between Guangxi and Zhonggu Shipping Group, adding new impetus to the construction and development of Beibu Gulf ports.
