Guangxi strives to develop 5G industry

Guangxi plans to build 20,000 5G base stations and develop 3 million 5G users in 2020, announced the Big Data Development Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

As of Dec 31, 2019, a total of 4,439 5G base stations have been completed in the region, exceeding the annual target of 3,000. Application demonstrations have been established in the fields of medical care, transportation, education, industry, agriculture, and new media. Among all the cities in Guangxi, Nanning, Guilin, and Liuzhou are the top three in the number of 5G base station construction, with 1,741, 718, and 682 respectively.

The year 2020 is the beginning of the three-year plan on information network construction, as well as the end of the three-year action plan for Guangxi's information and communication infrastructure construction.

In 2020, Guangxi will strive for the region's total telecommunications business to maintain medium and high-speed growth of more than 20 percent, as well as complete investment of 10 billion yuan ($1.42 billion) to 11 billion yuan. The region will also newly build 60,000 miles of optical cables, increase the internet provincial export bandwidth by 900 gigabits, as well as promote optical fiber network access to 5,000-7,500 natural villages.

This year, Guangxi will build more than 15,000 5G base stations and add 13,000 4G base stations, as well as develop 3 million 5G mobile phone users, 250,000 gigabit users in urban areas, and 6 million IoT platforms end users. In addition, it will promote coverage of high-speed railways and highways, as well as accelerate the construction of 4G network coverage in remote rural areas and border areas.
