Guangxi, Chongqing seek closer cooperation

A delegation led by Guangxi Party Secretary Lu Xinshe and Chairman Chen Wu visited Chongqing from April 23 to 24 to ramp up exchanges and cooperation during the construction of the New Western Land and Sea Channel.

The delegation members went on an investigation tour of the Chongqing Digital Economy Development Exhibition Center, Chongqing Zhubajie Network Co Ltd, Chongqing Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, Guoyuan Port Multimodal Transport Demonstration Base and Chongqing International Logistics Hub.

A symposium was later held to discuss the socioeconomic development of Guangxi and Chongqing. Chen Min'er, Party secretary of Chongqing, spoke highly of Guangxi's long history, picturesque scenery, advantageous location and strategic position.

He pointed out that Guangxi and Chongqing both shoulder responsibilities under China's Western Development Strategy, suggesting that the two areas increase the connectivity of their infrastructure to lower logistics costs and improve operation efficiency of the New Western Land and Sea Channel.

Meanwhile, Chongqing is looking forward to deepening its cooperation with Guangxi in scientific and technological innovation, manufacturing, new energy, agriculture and tourism, said Chen.

According to Lu, Guangxi is the nearest marine link for Chongqing, while Chongqing is an important hub for Guangxi to connect with the northern part of the New Western Land and Sea Channel. The two areas have a long history of friendly exchanges and thus broad prospects for cooperation.

He proposed increasing the frequency of freight trains between Guangxi and Chongqing, while pushing forward the construction of dry ports in Beibu Gulf. The two areas are expected to foster new growth momentum and enhance the competitiveness of key industries together through more scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation.
