Beihai accelerates tourism development

Beihai city in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has invested in 80 key tourism projects worth 51.9 billion yuan ($7.48 billion) to promote the area's tourism industry. The projects have already been constructed or are currently underway through expedited proceedings.

In order to increase tourism, the city has set up special working teams led by Beihai's Party secretary and mayor, made overall tourism development plans, and created incentive policies and measures in the fields of finance, taxation, investment and project promotion.

The city has also pushed forward the development model of "Tourism Plus", which merges tourism with other industries such as agriculture, fisheries, science and technology, culture, sports and health.

As a result, the city has constructed six large tourism projects including Yintan (Silver Beach), Weizhou Island and cruise port, and 22 additional major tourism and supporting projects such as the Northern Gulf International Marine Tourism Service Base and a large coastal tourism resort on Yintan Beach.

It has also introduced seven well-known hotels, including the Hilton, Marriott and Intercontinental, with the total investment of 5.5 billion yuan to the area.

Weizhou Island boasts a thriving tourism industry with local characteristics. Hepu county, known for local rural tourism, has ten 4A-level tourist attractions.

The city is also improving transportation to facilitate more tourism, with 29 air routes connecting Beihai with 32 cities. The number of passengers using Beihai Fucheng Airport reached 1.5 million between January and August this year, an increase of 38 percent compared to the same period last year.

In 2017 the city received over 30 million tourists for the first time, generating a tourism revenue of 36.86 billion yuan.

Compared to the same period last year, from January to August this year, tourism has increased 28 percent and revenue has grown 37 percent.
